Hi there, Since the birth of the World Wide Web in 1989, the number of websites operating on the internet has risen to approximately 1.9 billion. Our lives have meshed within the techno-space on the internet and, over the years we have gradually outpaced our ability to secure privacy, valuable data and information. 2019 has been a great year for the Black hats!
It has seen groundbreaking cyber attacks, even in Apple's iOS which was believed to be firm. Quite recently, the Nuclear Power Corporation of India Ltd. (NPCIL) had confirmed that a malware named Dtrack had impaired its system at the Kudankulam Nuclear Power Plant (KKNPP) in Tamil Nadu. To add more, Capital One had faced a data breach where more than 100 million customers' accounts were jeopardized and even India’s space agency had received an alert of a possible cyber-attack on its systems early this year, which analysts said was through phishing emails targeted at senior officials. And the list goes on. Norton has hashed out the stats of Data breaches in 2019 which reveals that in the first half of the year, we have globally faced,
3,800: The number of publicly disclosed breaches.
4.1 billion: The number of records exposed.
+54%: Increase in the number of reported breaches vs. first six months of 2018. Security is not a natural disaster, it is a people problem. The sheer volume of security events has swelled the demands for ethical hackers. As says John Reed Stark, the former chief of the SEC's Office of Internet Enforcement, the most dangerous looming crisis in information security is a severe cyber-security labor shortage. We live in a world driven by technology, hence HackQuest calls for a strong army of white hats who can not only safeguard data but also axe the cybercrime rate. HackQuest, which started 4 seasons ago, was an earnest attempt to unearth specific talents who excelled in playing their favorite game – Catch The Flag!
